Bespoke Wedding Suit Process

A bespoke wedding suit is unlike any other garment a man will own. It is created around the individual, his style, personality, body shape, complexion and most importantly, the occasion. For a groom, the bespoke tailoring process is part of the wedding journey itself. It ensures he will be the best-dressed man in the room, perfectly fitted in a bespoke garment that reflects the day’s significance.

Many tailors now offer wedding suits, as business suiting has declined; however, wedding tailoring is a distinct art form. A business suit is often a functional purchase. A wedding suit is a choice that must complement the wedding theme, suit the venue and coordinate with the bride’s outfit. It also needs to help the groom stand out from the guests and groomsmen.

Understanding all these differences is key to achieving the best result.

The Initial Consultation

Every suit begins with an initial consultation. In a wedding context, this is more than taking measurements. It is a personal appointment where we learn about the wedding, the venue, the time of year and the formality required. Grooms are dressed in sample suits so they can experience the feel of a perfectly fitted garment. This also allows them to see how different jacket lengths, lapel widths and colours work for their body shape and complexion. It is a collaborative stage, often involving the bride or family members, and it starts the journey of creating a bespoke look that is truly personal.

Design and Fabric Selection

The design consultation builds on the first meeting. The tailoring consultant works with the groom in front of a mirror to explore lapel shapes, waistcoat lengths, pocket angles and jacket openings. This ensures the design is balanced and flattering.

Fabric selection is guided by the style of the wedding and the practical needs of the day. As approved stockists for leading cloth merchants and mills across the UK and Europe, we can source any fabric. Linings are chosen to add personality, whether through a classic shade or a bold pattern. This is where the groom begins to see his vision take shape.

Measurements

When you’ve finalised your design, Craig will take over 40 measurements.

Along with posture and stance notes, your full body measurements are used to create a suit pattern. We will check your wedding diet plans and factor in any allowances for weight and muscle gains or losses.

First Fitting

Ideally your first fit should be a month before your wedding, that’s why it’s important to start the process early! In this 1 hour appointment, we’ll check the fit of your suit and make any necessary adjustments. In this appointment we will help you accessorise your look with our exclusive range of ties and pocket squares. If you’re having groomsmen hire suits, we will explore how to coordinate their look with your bespoke suit.

Collection and finesse

When you come to collect your suit we’ll check the fit and spend an hour with you, showing you how to dress, to achieve the perfect look in your wedding pictures.

We’ll show you how to:

  • Get the perfect shirt fit – by securely tucking it into your boxers.
  • Correctly put on your tie or bow tie – your tie will be pre-tied to simply pop on the morning of your wedding.
  • Arrange your pocket square – this will be pre-pinned into shape for you.
  • Wear a pocket watch if you choose to have one.
  • Hang up, store and care for your suit.

We’ll also give you some ideas on how best to capture the details of your bespoke suit, in your wedding pictures.

We’ll advise you to:

  • Make sure your mobile phone is not in your jacket and trousers – it will spoil the appearance and can be seen in pictures.
  • Ensure your photographer knows that you have had your suit made to your design.
  • Photography any special personalised dates or initial you’ve included in your design.
  • Pre warn videographers/photographers of any surprise messages you have embroidered in so they can capture that moment.
  • Have some photographs on your own without friends holding beer bottles and vaping in the background!
  • Show you some camera angles to show off your suit details.

Why Grooms Choose a Bespoke Suit

Many grooms rarely wear formal clothing, so their wedding is the perfect opportunity to invest in a good suit. Unlike the bride’s dress, it can be worn again, yet it still delivers the wow factor on the day. With inexpensive three-piece suits easily available for guests, a bespoke garment ensures the groom’s look is unique. It provides a perfect fit to ensure confidence and comfort from the ceremony to the evening reception.

Creating a Bespoke Wedding Suit

The bespoke tailoring process for a wedding requires more than technical skill. It demands an understanding of how the suit fits into the overall wedding vision. From the first appointment to the final fitting, every step is designed to ensure the groom has a bespoke garment that flatters, feels comfortable and makes him the most confident man in the room.
