OUR UPDATED 2021WEDDING SUIT TRENDS IS NOW AVAILABLE – CLICK HERE TO READ!
If you’re getting married in 2020, it’s time to start your wedding suit planning with our line-up of the wedding suit trends for 2020!
Achieving the right look for your wedding day is so important. It will ensure you look great in your pictures and give you loads of confidence on the biggest day of your life! However, for weddings the style code is a little different from your everyday look. Our advice is to aim for a contemporary classic rather than pure ‘on trend’ looks. Remember, you’ll be looking at your pictures for years to come so perhaps save the Peaky Blinders cap for less historic nights out with friends!
Read on for our tips on how to nail the wedding suit trends for 2020.
Traditional Tweeds & Checks

Vintage inspired checked and tweed suits will be a major trend this season and are perfect for popular rustic wedding styles. Brown tweed suits are starting to take centre stage and will look stylish as a larger windowpane check or more minimalist, houndstooth check. Your choice depends on how bold you want to go but this style will certainly set you apart from your fellow guests.

Tweed suits are often described as a Peaky Blinders Suit. If that’s the kind of look you’d like to go for, our advice is to perhaps avoid the dark muted tweed suit colours they used in the show. The Peaky Blinders costume designers will have used duller colours to add to the sense of danger and drama. For a wedding suit, we’d suggest brighter colours – tweed suits in bolder blues, browns and burgundy work better in our view.

Blue continues to be a popular colour choice for grooms and groomsmen and works well as a soft flannel or Donegal tweed suit. For grooms who are thinking of buying their suit we’d love to explore all the new season tweed suit fabrics with you. For those planning to use our hire suit services, we have introduced an exciting new range of waistcoats and accessories to achieve the look.

Blues and Neutrals
Minimalist beige, camels and coffee are all over the fashion pages and Instagram feeds. Neutral beige tones will create real impact and look great teamed with blue themed groomsmen.
This light colour is a fantastic choice for spring summer weddings. How neutral you go will depend on your colouring and skin tone. We can advise and help you visualise this look with our extensive selection of sample suits from our tailored suit and suit hire suit ranges. All our stock is held in our Wilmslow store and is available to try on in your initial one-to-one wedding suit consultation.

Contemporary Morning suits
Contemporary Balmoral morning suit with dove grey waistcoat options
David Beckham’s morning suit look, worn to the Royal wedding, has put morning dress firmly back on the fashion map! The flattering fit of the jacket and trousers, and contemporary dove grey double-breasted waistcoat is the key to this look.
As morning suits are worn less often, most people will opt for a suit hire service. Our navy Balmoral morning suit is as dramatic as David’s dark grey but a little softer on the skin tone. Featuring a close, flattering shape, our Balmoral hire suit is available to hire with our range of exclusive waistcoat styles. Made from a lightweight, 100% Italian wool, it’s perfect for warmer days.

Dashing Dinner suits
Tailored burgundy velvet dinner suit and black Dorchester hire suit
Dinner suits add sophistication and James Bond glamour to a wedding making them a popular choice for next season. Nothing beats a classic black dinner suit however, midnight blue, dark green and burgundy in wool, plush velvet and jacquard prints have great standout appeal! For the more adventurous, a white dinner suit jacket will complement your bride and give you the ‘wow factor’ at your wedding.

Who says it has to match?
Navy Highgrove hire suit with tweed waistcoat and tie options
It’s no longer essential for the groom’s party to match the colour of their ties to the bridesmaid dresses. In fact, we advise our couples not to get too caught up in colour matching!
Ties and waistcoats can create a unique look for your wedding and offer a great way for the groom to standout. Our exclusive range of ties, pocket squares and waistcoats offer an almost endless choice of personalisation options to make your wedding yours! We offer all our couples a one-to-one personal styling service nearer to their wedding date so that they can revisit their look and ensure they are happy with their choices.
Hopefully we’ve given you some inspiration with our 2020 wedding suit trends! So, what’s next? The most important thing is to get the ball rolling. At Whitfield & Ward we limit our number of weddings each weekend, to maintain our service levels and many weekends are already nearly full.
